CEDA Hosts its 7th Open Day for the community of Lentsweletau

The Agency held its 7th Open Day for Lentsweletau on the 23rd October 2015. As expected of the Open Days, CEDA managed to pull large crowds from Lentsweletau and neighbouring communities to the Kgotla. The guest of honour at the Open Day was Assistant Minister of Trade and Industry Honourable Advocate Sadique Kebonang who encouraged the community to take advantage of the services CEDA and its invited stakeholders offer. “It is important to make use of these initiatives so that you as Batswana can equip yourselves with the necessary knowledge of how to start a business” he said. He went on to say that the Kweneng East area has so much potential with farming particularly with Small Stock and horticulture. “Due to its proximity to Gaborone things are easily accessible making markets easier to reach”.

Representing CEDA was the Chief Operations Officer, Mr Andrew Madeswi who presented on CEDA’s mandate and objectives. For his part, Mr. Madeswi explained the objective of the Open Day and the different communities that have benefitted from the Open Days. He went on to encourage people to take advantage of CEDA in starting small agricultural projects that were manageable and upon success to grow them to larger scaled projects. “The community needs to also fully understand how CEDA and its partners operate in order to maximise their business opportunities.

Open Days have assisted the Agency in exposing communities that have little or no knowledge of what the Agency’s mandate, products and services are. The Open Days equally give stakeholders such as BOBS, Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO), Local Enterprise Authority (LEA), Companies and Intellectual Properties Authority (CIPA) NBFIRA and Competition Authority the opportunity to also spread their services.

CEDA will in the near future host more Open Days in attempt to reach out to more communities across the country. Outreach is a key aspect of the 2015 -18 Corporate Strategy dubbed “Our People, Our Money = Sustainability”.
