1. CEDA/DBSA UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE KEY MILESTONES

1. Launch date and opening of applications |
1 June 2017 |
· The CEDA/ DBSA University challenge was officially launched on 1 June 2017 at Gaborone International Convention Centre by His Honour, The Vice President of the Republic of Botswana, Mr E.K Masisi.
· The applications were immediately available to the students after this launch online on the CEDA website as well as all the participating institutions websites. Regular updates are posted on the website as well as CEDA social media platforms.

2. Activation of the University Challenge |
1 June – 25 September 2017 |
· Various activities followed the launch, being engagements with the print, radio, television and social media.
· Stakeholder engagement started immediately after the launch.
· In order to enhance participation and awareness of the CEDA/DBSA University Challenge activations were held at 9 of the participating institutions with the exception of BIUST as they were on vacation.
· An online activation was done for BUIST students and staff. |
3. Applications Closing date |
25 September 2017 |
· The last application was received at 1700hrs on the 25 September 2017, which was the official closing time.

4. Screening of applications |
26 September -7 October 2017 |
· Screening for compliance by the Secretariat was done on all applications followed by preliminary judging to select the top 50 applications. |
5. Preliminary Assessment by judges |
9-14 October 2017 |
· Judging was done on the top 50 applications and they selected the top ten finalists.

6. Announcement of the Top Ten Finalists |
16 October 2017 |
· The top ten finalists were contacted through phone on the 15 October 2017. One on one meetings were held in order to brief them on the way forward.
· The top ten finalists were announced on various media platforms including social media, print and radio.
· Profiles of the top ten and a brief on their proposals were published on various media platforms (including the Government Facebook Page) in order to introduce them to the public. |
7. Training for the Top Ten Finalists |
20 October 2017 |
· In order to prepare the finalists for interviews with the judges, they were trained on Presentation Skills on the 20 October 2017.

8. Presentation by the 10 finalists |
24 October 2017 |
· The judges conducted face-to-face interviews with the top 10 finalists. Industry giants, members of the press, academia and Government officials, attended the interview sessions.
· The interviews contributed 20% towards the final mark of the contestants.

9. Radio Interviews |
26 October 2017 |
· Three of the top ten finalists were interviewed on Yarona FM; they explained their concepts to the public and shared their experiences throughout the Challenge.

10. Awards Ceremony

· Announcement of the winner |
11. Radio Interview |
1 November 2017 |
· The winner will be interviewed on Yarona FM where they will share their excitement and experience with the public as well as encourage students to enroll in next year’s competition. |
12. Stakeholder Engagement |
|
· Following the award ceremony CEDA will embark on a stakeholder engagement to encourage uptake of the winner’s and finalists’ concepts to relevant stakeholders. |
2. COMPETITION DEMOGRAPHICS
· 222 applications were received from students of the participating institutions.
2.1 SUBMISSIONS BY INSTITUTIONS
· Majority of the applications were from University of Botswana students at 34% followed by Botswana Accountancy College at 18%.
